If device policy is being used in your enterprise, you will automatically be directed to Google Play store where you can download it.

Downloading Google Apps Device Policy

  1. Search for Google Apps Device Policy on Google Play store, and press the Google Apps Device Policy icon.

  2. Press Install. Android will ask for confirmation giving a list of permissions needed for the Device Policy application to function.

  3. Press Install. When installation is complete, press Open to continue.

Setting up Device Policy on your phone or tablet

  1. Press the install notification or app icon to open the app. If you have multiple Google / G Suite accounts, select the account you want to set up. The Introduction screen gives an overview of what the app does. Click Next.

  2. If you already have your G Suite account set up on the phone, select to set up Device Policy with your account. Click OK.
    Note: If you aren't signed in to G Suite on your Android, you'll be asked to sign in to your account.

  3. This step has 2 scenarios depending on what settings your administrator has set for your device.
    • If your administrator doesn't require device approval, you will be taken to a screen that says "Activate security policies?" Press Activate.
    • If your administrator requires that they need to approve your device before it can sync with G Suite, you will see a note on your screen screen and an email explaining that the device first needs to be approved before you can advance to step 4.
  4. Registering Device with server and Confirm Enforcement. The screen shows a list of policy settings your administrator is enforcing on your account. Press Enforce.

  5. Optional: If you need to change settings, like choosing a PIN for your device, you'll be notified to make these changes before your device is activated.

  6. Activating Device with server. Your device will activate, and you'll be taken to the Status screen.

You've set up Device Policy! Your G Suite data (mail, calendar, and contacts) will start syncing to this device. You don't need to do anything more, but you can check out some of the user device management features like remotely locating your device and remotely ringing it if you lose it.

Remotely wiping your device

If your device is lost or stolen, contact your G Suite administrator to wipe the device remotely. Note that this will remove all accounts you have on your device, including personal accounts. You will still be able to access your mail on the web.

Alternatively, if your G Suite administrator has enabled this feature, you can remotely wipe your device by pressing Wipe Device on your My Devices page.

Uninstalling Google Apps Device Policy

There are two ways to uninstall Google Apps Device Policy. The easisest is to unregister all accounts associated with the Device Policy app and then uninstall the app. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On your Android device, open the Device Policy app and press Unregister on the Status screen for each account you have registered with the device.
  2. Exit the Device Policy app and on your Android, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and select the Device Policy app.
  3. Press Uninstall and OK to remove the application.

Alternatively, you can uninstall Google Apps Device Policy by following these steps:

  1. On your Android device, go to Settings > Security.
  2. Press Select device administrators.
  3. Uncheck Google Apps Device Policy.
  4. Press Deactivate and OK.
  5. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and select the Device Policy app.
  6. Press Uninstall and OK to remove the application.

If your G Suite administrator is enforcing device policies on your device, when you uninstall Device Policy, your device will stop syncing with your G Suite account.
